RELEASE Statewide Attorneys’ Group Recognizes KINGSTON, Pa. (August
7, 2006) – The Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association recently gave a
special President’s Award for Community Service to The Committee for
Justice for All, a Kingston-based victims’ rights organization, for
its efforts in fighting attempts to limit the legal rights of seriously
injured people. The award, which was
presented at PaTLA’s Annual Convention last month, was presented by
outgoing PaTLA President “It is truly
humbling and gratifying to be recognized by such an esteemed
organization as the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association,” said The award recognized
CJA for its “passionate advocacy and staunch defense of the civil
justice system in “This award is in
appreciation of all of CJA’s activities that promote and protect the
constitutional right of trial by jury,” said Fullam. “PaTLA stands
with Mr. Lyon and CJA in the belief that this right is as fundamental to
American freedom as the right to vote.” CJA was started in
2002 by a coalition of prominent Northeastern Pennsylvania law firms in
response to President Bush’s visit to Scranton to announce his
national “tort reform” initiative, which would arbitrarily limit the
rights of seriously injured victims of medical malpractice. The group
has since garnered the support of numerous victims of malpractice and
others injured by negligence. CJA has vigorously opposed arbitrary caps
on damages and other legislative attempts to undermine the civil justice
system and limit the rights of seriously injured people. It has also
promoted programs and initiatives to keep patients and consumers safer. CJA,
