NEPA Group Decries Bill’s Passage
As 'Sad Day for Innocent Victims'
The president of a Northeastern Pennsylvania victims’ rights advocacy group today decried the passage of Senate Bill 1131 as “a sad day for innocent victims and their families” and a “massive giveaway to corporate special interests and the insurance industry.”
“Senate Bill 1131 does nothing to prevent injuries, keep Pennsylvanians safe or promote accountability and transparency,” said Attorney David I. Fallk, president of The Committee for Justice for All. “Instead, it robs seriously injured victims of the money they need to survive and lets the responsible wrongdoers off the hook.”
Ultimately, by passing SB 1131, Gov. Tom Corbett and the Republican-controlled Legislature will leave many victims and their families grossly undercompensated, forcing them to turn to Medicaid and other public assistance, and further burdening taxpayers.
“Senate Bill 1131 is a massive giveaway to corporate special interests and the insurance industry that leaves hardworking Pennsylvania taxpayers holding the bag,” said Fallk, while expressing gratitude for the many House and Senate members who opposed the legislation. “It is a sad day for innocent victims and their families.”
The Committee for Justice for All is a non-profit advocacy group fighting to preserve the integrity of the civil justice system and the Constitutional right of all Americans to trial by jury.
